What is an Ethical Society?

- A short statement on the vision for an Ethical Society
- Ethical Culture is a religious, philosophical, and educational movement. Our focus is on how we live our lives and not on what we believe. The Eight Commitments of Ethical Culture (Ethical Humanism) is an attempt to put into words some of the commitments underlying Ethical Societies.
- Ethical Culture as Religion: A common question asked of Ethical Culture is whether we are a religious organization and, if so, in what way. Ethical Culture has the legal standing of a religion in the United States. This essay includes statements by several Ethical Culture leaders of the past and present on this important question.

We've included the first chapter of this book: The Humanist Way: An Introduction to Ethical Humanist Religion (Edward L. Ericson). You can order more copies from the Statement of Purpose: American Ethical Union -- the American Ethical Union is the organization uniting the 20+ Ethical Societies and local groups. This document is the AEU's formal statement of purpose.
