Ethhical Society Without Walls -- How To
HOW TO USE THIS SITE

General Guidelines

  • You can freely visit most pages that the HOME page leads you to.
  • You can comment on the blog entries listed under recent blog posts without registering or logging in. Comments that are posted this way are filtered to avoid those that are posted by spammers.
  • Activities that are deployed at the ESWoW Community require registration and login.
  • You can register to the ESWoW Community without being a member of the Ethical Society Without Walls. To register, click on JOIN IN on the Main Menu of the site.
  • Once registered, you can reach the ESWoW Community by ...
  • clicking one of the options that appear in the ESWoW Community module, on the left side column of our site. This module lists specific activities of the Community. A click on one of options will take you directly to that activity passing through a login procedure, if needed, or ...
  • using the Login module that appears to the right of this page. This method takes you (after a login procedure) to the home page of the ESWoW Community. From there, you will have to click your way (drill) down to a specific activity.

  • In summary, if you know which activity of the ESWoW Community you want to reach, use the links on the Community module on the left. Otherwise, use the Login module on the right.

Login Problems -- Resolutions and Guidelines

To participate in the activities of the Community Center, a user needs a working ID (username) and password. If you face a problem trying to login, please follow these guidelines
    • I login by entering my username and password, but the login screen keeps on reappearing. Diagnostic: either your username or password (or both) are wrong. If the problems persists, you need assistance from the administration of the site. If you are certain about the username but not sure about the password .... check the "forgot password" procedure below.
    • I forgot my password. The system used for the Community Center employs an industry standard multi-step process that allows a user to receive, via email, a new password. The old password cannot be recovered. These steps, which the user must follow through its completion, are
      • Step 1: click on "forgot Password" link and enter your email address that was used when the account was created (our system can use the username instead of the email address in this request). The forgot password link usually appears alongside the login screen.
      • Step 2: The system sends you an email with a question (I am paraphrasing here): did you really asked for a new password? The reason for this intermediate step is to avoid false requests from people that may use your email for dishonest reasons. To comfirm your request, click on the link provided.
      • Step 3: The system sends you a second email with your username and a new password. Again, a click on the link provided will take you back to the Community Center where you can change your password to one more of your liking.
      • In summary: (a) click on "forgot password," (b) receive the first email and reply appropriately, (c) receive second email, reply through the link provided and adjust password.

    Getting into the ESWoW Community

(watch a video presentation that illustrates this document)
    • From the home page, http://eswow.org, click on one of the options in the ESWoW Community Module on the left side of the home page, below the main menu, or ...

    • Alternatively, click on "How to Use the Site" from the main menu on the left. This will take you to a page with general information about the workings of the website ... including troubleshooting, logging in, and issues about usernames and passwords. On the right side of the page there is a link to the Community ... click on it.
    • Most of the time, either method above will land you in a LOGIN page where you have to enter your username and password as provided to you, and submit. If you get a repeat of the login page, try again. If, again, the login page repeats, either your username, or password, or both are wrong. If you believe it is a password problem only, you may want to try the “forgotten password” procedure. If not, contact the webmaster or someone in the administration of the site.
    • The structure of the ESWoW Community is hierarchical. At the top there are major categories. Inside each category there are groups. Users may belong to or participate in one or more groups -- sometimes in the role of a participant, sometimes as a moderator. Once inside a group, you can choose to partake in a variety of activities.
    • After successful login, you will see the “home page” of the Community. Notice the layout of this page.
      • Check the upper right corner of the page. If you see your name there followed by the word (logout), you are logged in. If not, click on the link (login) that appears in the same location and try to login again.
      • Observe the box called “group categories” at the center of the page. The names of these categories are clues into the issues or activities being tackled in them. Take, for example, Ethical Living Practices. The number to the right indicates how many active groups there are in this category. Click on it.
      • Once you open a category, you will see a list of groups that have been formed around an issue or topic along with the names of the moderators and a brief description of the group. You may click on any of them, however, access to them is dependent on how they were organized. Some may require a one-time access code that may have provided directly to you by the moderator. In some groups you can enter as a guest. And in some groups you can "enroll" yourself directly, without any further processes.
      • Once inside a group, you will be exposed to a structured environment made up of topics of discussions, resources like documents, videos, chats, polls, etc.

    The ZIP Code Map

Using the proper authorization code from Google, we have created a map of the United States where we place a marker which represents the approximate location of a registered user of the website.

In order to see a marker corresponding to the ZIP code of your city or location, you must have it recorded in our database. We currently ask for the ZIP code of the user upon registration, however, we did not collect this information from early registrants.

To be sure that you are registered with a ZIP code in the appropriate field, login into our Learning Center, find your way to your profile and make sure that the information in the "city/town" field begins with your 5-digit ZIP code. If not, type your ZIP code in and, after it, any other information you want in there. The extra information is not used in the construction of the map.

Unfortunately we do not have sufficient geophysical data to place a marker for registrants that live outside the United States.

Contact the webmaster for any additional information or help.
